My daughter has been worried to be away from me for as long as I can remember. We having been talking about how the Worry Monster makes her body feel bad because he tells her something really bad is going to happen. We have been practicing talking back to the Worry Monster and telling him he doesn’t know what he is talking about. My daughter actually hugged me once, instead of 10 times, and walked into school. The may not sound like a big deal, but it is huge! I hope this is the beginning of a less anxious and more confident girl.

My son’s fear of dogs started small and slowly grew over time. Before we knew it, he was afraid to go to the park, his soccer games, and his friend’s houses who had dogs. Battles and avoidance became a regular part of our family interactions. We needed help. Using the strategies in Make Your Warrior a Warrior, we took on the Worry Monster together. We started breaking down his fears into small baby steps and practicing one by one. Before long my son stopped avoiding places, although still a little scared. Then it happened! He went to soccer and friends houses with a smile on his face. While walking onto the soccer field, with a dog running around, he said, “Mom, I am not afraid anymore.”
